What's up?
Hope you're doing better than that tree in my back yard this week. No idea what I'm talking about? Just head over to my Facebook page and learn all about the latest drama to befall the fam.
Now that my heart has stopped slamming into my breastbone, I can think about all the things on my to-do list this week. But first, last week. My big goal last week was to send out some queries - that is, submitting a very nice, very precise letter along with a part of the novel to some agents in the hopes they love it as much as I (and many of you!) do. And I did that! I didn't get through my whole list, but I did get a half-dozen queries sent out, and I hope to send out some more either this week or early next. It doesn't take an excessive amount of time to send these, but it's kind of exhausting because I have to read all the things I've already written over and over again, make sure I'm spelling the agent's name right and not calling them by the last agent's name (we all know how embarrassing that can be). In some cases, I've been throwing out the person I originally intended to approach altogether in favor of a different person at the same agency who might be a better fit.
I hope I made the right decision. Who knows?
The great news is that, already, one agent has reached out to say, "Please send me the whole book now." That's a great sign for a couple different reasons - One, because the response time of agents is usually pretty long, and Two, because if one agent likes it enough to read more, it is possible that others will, too. I don't want to celebrate prematurely, but let's just say I'm cautiously optimistic I'm getting closer to finding the right person to help me find a home for The Other Women.
What will I do in the meantime? All the things, but in no particular order. I'm flitting between writing articles, thinking about maybe putting a blog post together, republishing some of my writing tips on Medium, doing work for my actual job (what's that?), and trying in absolute and utter vain to wrap my head around using social media to reach people who absolutely need my book, and my other writing, in their lives.
Also, thinking about selling some editing services because, my goodness, people need help.
I'm also reading, stalking my chickens to figure out which of them is still freeloading and not giving us any eggs in return, and trying to find the rewind button so I can go back to 9:48 Monday morning and push that tree in a different direction.
You'll probably hear me before you see me, whizzing by once the elastic band that has me wound up so tight finally snaps and sends me flying. But hopefully by then I'll be able to crack my special bottle of brut and celebrate. And you're welcome to join.
Until next time,
P.S. If you happen to know anyone who needs my book in their life but doesn't know it yet, what are you waiting for? Forward this email or share this post. they can click the button below and get instant access to all things KadilakWrites.
