Open for an Insider's View of The Other Women
Are you a nerd for backstory? This edition is for you.
Welcome Back!
First up, a little book (non)news. Query letters are sent, and I've also entered the book into a few contests for unpublished, and in some cases first-time, authors. Results won't be back on any of those things for a month or more, so I'll just be sitting here trying not to melt into a puddle from now until October as things hopefully shake out little by little. I'll be sure to keep you in the loop whenever there's an update to give!
So, remember a few weeks ago when you read the first-ever scene from The Other Women? The one I buried away, never to be seen except by the coolest people around? (Yes, that's you!) Well, you may remember there was a second prologue. The second prologue went pretty far back in book time, though it still takes place about 50-100 years into the future for us. Even though it's not in the book anymore, I could definitely see it being the opening scene if the book were ever to be adapted into a movie. (Hey, a girl can dream!)
The world of the book hinges on a few key laws that, like many, seem logical, but once you peel away the layers you start seeing the bias under the surface. The scene I'm sharing with you today shares a little of the backstory for how the most pivotal of these laws came to be. This prologue was far too long, which is one reason I cut it from the book, but that also means you get a lot of rich backstory to chew on while you wait for the book (or if you're one of my amazing beta readers, you get more of the world you keep asking for more of)!
Read the first scene from the prologue by clicking below, and then reply to let me know what you think! I love hearing your thoughts, and I might even share some on social media - with permission, of course!
Oh, and don't forget to check out this week's blog, which has another scene - this one introducing nursery wombs - which won't appear in The Other Women, but might make it into the prequel!
Until next time,
