That they shut the doors when they could see you coming only to take-off early... Wow. So rude. Great job turning such a negative experience into a positive one!
In thirty years of regular airplane, I've only had the gate door shut on late-running me once and it was painful, humiliating, and cause for so much self-flagellation. Airports have a way of turning all of us into versions of St. Francis jumping into a rose bush.
Nicci, ahhh, I was in suspense with this story. I think I would've had a heart attack. But I love how you guys just chucked your original plan and chose to mosey on a road trip instead. Love that. It's totally my style.
I nearly cracked a sweat just reading this. Ouch. Be kind to yourself. I managed a solo parenting trip to Montana this summer with three kids -- 15 hours travel time each way -- and the sheer number of things to remember and things that could have gone wrong were almost too much to even contemplate. Happily, only one neck pillow was lost. But my middle daughter would have left her phone watch in the waiting area for our connecting flight if I hadn't seen it by chance while shouldering four other bags and cleaning up dinner trash. That was a close call.
